The Safeway store at First Avenue and Steele Street in Cherry Creek will close, effective Jan.4 2018. Due to long-standing contractual obligations, Cherry Creek Shopping Center was not longer able to renew Safeway’s lease, despite being in the neighborhood for 51 years. The move underscores the changes happening in the retail sector and the Cherry Creek shopping district.
