Commerce City, CO – Commerce City broke ground on the new recreation center near E. 112th Avenue and Potomac Street today, celebrating the fourth project underway in the city’s voter-approved capital improvement program.
The new recreation center is planned as a 106,000-square-foot facility that includes an indoor pool, multi-court gymnasium with an elevated walking/jogging track, a nearly 10,000-square-foot gymnastics area, weights/fitness area, dance/aerobics studio, rooftop balcony, a 300-person community room and a multi-generational lounge. “This recreation center will serve the needs of our growing community,” said Commerce City Mayor Sean Ford. “In this space, all generations will find programs, services and wellness opportunities for years to come.”
Construction on the new recreation center is expected to be completed in spring 2018 (weather dependent). The total project budget is $45.2 million for the recreation center building and $15.7 million for roadway and utility infrastructure. The designer is Sink Combs Dethlefs Architectural Design and the construction manager and general contractor is Pinkard Construction.
The new recreation center is one of five projects in Commerce City’s capital improvement program, made possible from a 2013 voter-approved, 1-percent sales and use tax for new parks, recreation and road projects.
