DENVER — Today, Dec. 5, DaVita Inc. (NYSE: DVA), a leading independent medical group and a leading provider of kidney care services in the United States, will join Mayor Michael B. Hancock and community leaders as the presenting sponsor at the third annual Sustainable Denver Summit.

The Sustainable Denver Summit will cap off a year-long process that engaged the community – businesses, non-profits, government agencies and residents – in developing and implementing specific written commitments to action and projects that will help Denver achieve its 2020 Sustainability Goals. The 2015 and 2016 Summits produced over 170 commitments combined.

DaVita’s sustainability mission and vision aligns with that of the city of Denver’s, with complementary goals focused on water, energy and carbon reduction and recycling.

  • DaVita has committed to 45 percent of its Denver dialysis centers to have recycling by 2020.
  • DaVita’s world headquarters in Denver has a 65 percent waste diversion rate. The average Denverwaste diversion rate is 18 percent.
  •  83 percent of DaVita’s teammates (employees) at the world headquarters in Denver carpool, bike, take public transit or walk to work. The Denver average is 55 percent.

“We are excited to serve in Mayor Hancock’s Office of Sustainability, where pragmatic and creative ideas can be shared and tested,” said Kent Thiry, chairman and CEO of DaVita. “Cities and countries throughout the world are grappling with these challenges.  Let’s learn from them. Let’s lead them.”

The theme of this year’s summit is “growing responsibly.” As Denver grows, its increased density creates both opportunity and challenges. Sustainability leaders from across the Denver area will gather at the summit to discuss solutions to managing this growth in a sustainable way.
