GE Johnson Celebrates Groundbreaking of Two School Improvement Projects in Brighton

Groundbreaking at Overland Trail Middle School and Northeast Elementary School in Brighton.

IMG_3812BRIGHTON – On Thursday, Mar. 22, GE Johnson Construction Company joined School District 27J to celebrate the dual groundbreaking of much needed improvement projects at Overland Trail Middle School and Northeast Elementary School in Brighton. Both facilities are situated on a shared campus, with a combined enrollment of more than 1,200 students.

As the construction manager and general contractor for the project, GE Johnson is focused on safety and efficient work that limit the impact to students while the campuses are occupied.

“We are thrilled to be making the improvements for both of the schools – the kids deserve the updates, and it is great to have them out today to kickoff the project,” said Project Manager Theron Skidmore, just before the student council members from Overland Trail dug their official groundbreaking shovels into the dirt.

Various improvements will be completed across both facilities, including additions and renovations resulting in a more modern feel, new lighting and ceilings throughout, new HVAC units, library improvements, technology upgrades, and various site work in the shared areas of the campus. These projects come in response to rapidly aging facilities and emerging student needs; both schools also feature International Baccalaureate (IB) programs which will be greatly enhanced by the improvements. Work is currently underway, and will progress throughout the year, reaching completion in late 2018.
