Matt Brower, principal of Column Commercial Partners (CCP), a Denver-based firm that assists tenants, landlords and investors with developing and implementing a strategic real estate plan, co-founded the company with partner Gary Taylor in late 2011. Leaving a major brokerage and starting his own firm was no easy task but it remains the most rewarding move Brower has ever made.

Prior to starting CCP, Brower served as a leader in the Tenant Advisory Group and Education Practice Group at Grubb & Ellis Company, and was there for more than nine years.

Focused on representing the tenant and buyer side exclusively, Brower has consulted with and assisted a long list of national firms and local companies by driving savings and by taking a strategic approach to his real estate objectives. His impressive leasing and sales transactions total in excess of $150 million.

“Making the shift from being a broker who only handles clients’ real estate transactions to becoming a trusted business advisor and resource for my clients was a fundamental transition. It taught me the importance of building my professional network and contributing to Denver’s business community in meaningful ways,” says Brower. “Since starting Column Commercial Partners, I have been able to relate to my clients on an even deeper level with the understanding and perspective that comes with being a business owner.”

The number of loyal clients in multiple markets across the country that Brower assists, is a testament to the level of service he provides. New Horizons Computer Learning Centers engaged him to assist them with a relocation of their downtown Denver office. From that experience, they have continued to use him across the country for all of their corporate-owned locations.

Our expertise allows companies the flexibility and stability they need to grow and invest back into their company and throughout the community. This ripple effect creates a strong business fabric, benefitting all Denver businesses.”

CCP specialize in high growth companies, providing creative deal structures that allow for flexibility and expansion. “MyRounding Solutions was bringing their technology from beta to market, and taking on growth capital. Their headcount would soon grow from 10 to approximately 40 in a matter of months. It was important to structure a deal that didn’t have them overpaying for a larger space before they needed it, while also avoiding getting stuck in a space that was too small,” says Brower.

The team found the company an 11,000-square-foot sublease that could accommodate their growing team, while also positioning them for expansion. “We negotiated a rental rate that was 50 percent less than a direct lease, secured several months of free rent and even arranged for 2,000 square feet of the space to be free for the entire term. For future growth, we secured first rights to expand into the adjacent vacancies.”

Brower believes that supporting each team member individually leads to an overall stronger and more successful firm. “That’s why we take great care in mentoring new brokers that join our team. Our mentorship culture includes in-depth one-on-one coaching and training for business development, networking, real estate documents, negotiation tactics and leadership development.”
