Monthly SMPS Luncheon – Economic Forecast
January 16 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm
Chris Akers, Economist with the State Demographer’s Office will cover economic and labor forecast. Jessica Ostermick, Industrial and Logistics Director from CBRE will discuss factors affecting commercial and industrial real estate, as well as construction costs, and will talk to changes in global economy and financial trends, trickling down to local levels. Joshua Putterman is an international development finance risk specialist and CEO of Extreme Event Risk will highlight on risks presented by extreme weather events, and discuss advanced quantitative tools to address qualitative business planning challenges affecting the AEC industry.
Also, at this event, hear from an weather climatology research expert discussing how the Mountain West must plan for the risks presented by extreme weather events that affect the bottom line of our industry: As the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events continues to influence the bottom line, planning and provisioning for the risks posed by these events becomes absolutely necessary. Delays, rework, and warranty issues from events like the catastrophic flooding in 2013 and the hail storms in 2017 impact the built environment locally. Regionally, powerful storms like Hurricane Harvey can shock labor and material markets in unexpected ways for months. Looking to past weather trends when creating schedules, building designs, or project contingencies, is no longer prudent in this new and rapidly changing environment. Therefore, how do we adjust?
Please note, this event is going to be held at the Kimpton Hotel Born at 1600 Wewatta Street, Denver.
