Developing an Equity Mindset: A Two-Part Training on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion with Dr. Kira Banks
As part of ULI’s continuing efforts to increase awareness and understanding around diversity, equity, and inclusion, we are excited to announce that we have engaged Dr. Kira Hudson Banks to conduct a training on “Developing an Equity Mindset.” The training will take place virtually over two sessions on July 21st and 22nd from 3:00pm-4:30pm MDT each day. Dr. Banks is a nationally recognized equity leader, author, professor, and researcher and has served as an advisor to the Ferguson Commission.
The training will provide the framework and foundation needed to change behaviors and patterns in an organization and create a more equitable environment. While virtual, the sessions will be interactive with opportunities for breakout room discussions and engagement.
Here are descriptions of the sessions:
Developing an Equity Mindset: Foundational Concepts
Part 1 will lay the groundwork by providing individuals at all levels an understanding of applying an equity lens. Dr. Banks will lead us through how to understand and implement diversity, equity, and inclusion to create lasting and sustainable change.
Developing an Equity Mindset: Next Steps
Part 2focuses on you as an individual within an organization committed to system-level change. It builds on the foundation from Part 1 to help you identify your sphere of influence to move equity forward within your organization and industry. We’ll be breaking out into small groups to discuss topics including unconscious bias, intergroup interactions in the workplace, developing a common language and vocabulary, and how to be accountable for change.

- How to be accountable to change
- Tips for facilitating dialogue
- Other skills that support individuals within an organization on the path to equity
These trainings are intended to support you in your work inside and outside of ULI. We see this as a great leadership development opportunity for you as equity, diversity, and inclusion are becoming increasingly central to our business and the communities we work in.
