Haselden Construction Breaks Ground on New Front Range Community College Health Care Careers Center

FORT COLLINSHaselden Construction recently broke ground on the new Health Care Careers Center (HCCC) on Front Range Community College’s Larimer Campus. The 61,292-square-foot building will be the main facility and training center for more than 900 students studying health-related fields and is scheduled to open for the fall 2020 semester.

The HCCC will be an integral part of Front Range Community College’s Larimer Campus and the larger community.

“Health care has changed dramatically in recent years and is poised to change more as technology advances, and as our growing older population demands more out of the system,” said Andrew Dorsey, president of Front Range Community College. “This Health Care Careers Center will allow us to provide the educated workforce needed to meet these changes in health care.”

The facility, designed by architect Hord Coplan Macht, will have 24 nursing bed skills stations, six dental chair stations, mock emergency department rooms and ADA-compliant bathrooms, and various other medical settings, providing students with hands-on training in a “real world” environment. Classrooms, labs, additional skills rooms, and study centers will also be available for students and faculty.

“As the population ages, the need for health care professionals increases, and along with that, the demand increases for quality medical training and facilities in Colorado,” said Colby Stodden, senior project manager for Haselden Construction. “We have a skilled team who has spent decades building state-of-the-art hospitals, medical centers, and training facilities throughout the region, and it’s an honor to be working with Front Range Community College on a building that will positively impact the community for years to come.”

The college, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, has educated more than 6,500 nurses and nearly 10,000 other health care professionals over the years and is ranked one of the top six community colleges in the country for transfer student programs. Currently 10 percent of its student population is studying a health-related specialty. These disciplines include nursing and the school’s certified nurse aid program — as well as dental assisting, emergency medical services, surgical technology, medical assisting, phlebotomy, and holistic health and wellness.

Haselden Construction’s Northern Regional team has extensive health care and higher education construction experience for the region. The company recently completed the UCHealth Longs Peak Hospital in Longmont, Colo., as well as the JBS Global Food Innovation Center and Anatomy/Zoology addition at Colorado State University.
