Industry Spotlight: Relationship-Based “Concrete Contractor”

According to Downtown Denver Partnership’s 2016 State of the Downtown Denver Report, $2.5 billion of investment is under construction or planned for Downtown Denver in 2016. In addition, as of the mid-way point of 2016, 18 projects are under construction and 14 more projects are planned for development in Downtown Denver with 1,230 additional hotel rooms, 4,592 residential units, and 2,770,300 SF of additional office space.

Despite all of this development in Downtown plus the growth throughout the rest of the state, historically, Colorado’s construction industry has not been an easy market to enter from an outsider’s perspective. However, Suntec Concrete, a Phoenix-based self-purported “concrete contractor”, has been able to gain traction in the Colorado market with six projects already in progress since June of 2016 with one more starting in October. When asked about Suntec’s strategy on breaking into the Colorado market, Matt Rogers, Senior Project Manager at Suntec, comments, “Suntec has always been a relationship-based company that focuses on providing the best value for our clients.”

Suntec ConcreteRogers, who started with Suntec about 13 years ago and has been a partner in the company for the past ten years, splits his time 50/50 between Colorado and Arizona in order to build the relationships necessary to be a player in the Colorado construction market. He added that six of the seven projects Suntec is currently working on have been the result of relationships with owners who referred Suntec to the design and construction teams.
