White Construction Group Enters Second Generation of Ownership

Generation 2 is led by a 24-year veteran of White Construction Group, Chris Haugen.

For more than 35 years, White Construction Group (WCG) has focused on improving the preconstruction and construction experience for clients on unique projects throughout Colorado, Wyoming, and beyond. Now, the company is poised to ascend to greater heights as it celebrates the transition of company ownership. WCG is pleased to announce the transition from Generation 1 to Generation 2 ownership, effective January 1, 2021.

Originally founded by Tim White (as T.L. White and Associates in 1985), the company has steadily grown from a one-man operation to a regional force, employing as many as seventy-five construction professionals and craftspeople. Becoming White Construction Group in 2003, the company earned a reputation for comprehensive commercial general contracting services, with an emphasis on construction management, design-build, design-assist, historic preservation, and adaptive re-use projects in the public and private sectors.

On January 1, 2019, Generation 1 and 2 ownership implemented a strategic plan that immediately transitioned day-to-day operations and culminated with the sale of WCG to Generation-2 by January of 2021. WCG’s Generation 2 ownership team consists of three equal partners: Chris Haugen (CEO), Bill Thomas (CFO), and Trey Nobles (COO).

Generation 2 is led by a 24-year veteran of White Construction Group, Chris Haugen, who originally joined the company as a carpenter and worked up through estimating, preconstruction, project management, and business development. Chris represents a continuation of Generation 1, which fortifies the company as it transitions into the future. Says Haugen, “We are extremely proud to have completed this important transition in the history of White Construction Group. Over the years, we have earned the trust of our clients and peers based on the commitment of our people and the integrity of our processes. That will not change. In the meantime, we have become stronger through the formation of a solid leadership team to ensure that we elevate our performance on every project.”

Chris initially recruited Bill Thomas to join the Generation 2 leadership team in 2017. Bill graduated from the University of Colorado and brings 25+ years of management expertise to the team, including 17+ years in construction accounting. Thomas notes, “Chris’ vision was to surround himself with partners that could collaboratively facilitate the company’s sustainable growth.”

Chris and Bill were joined by 30-year construction veteran, Trey Nobles, in late 2018. Trey hails from Colorado State University and adds executive-level expertise from roles at larger contracting organizations in the Rocky Mountain region. Nobles comments, “The opportunity to join Chris and Bill as the owners of WCG, to help shape and develop our employees, and to define the company’s destiny, was incredibly attractive.” He adds, “Our culture embraces the past while pushing the staff beyond past thinking to continually improve.”

The Generation 2 ownership transition has continued since early 2019 and includes multiple key leadership-team organizational enhancements: Brian Patton (vice president of business development), Michele Ortiz (Human Resources director), Jason Maxwell (general superintendent), Clint Jackson (construction executive), David Krier (project executive), John Meyer (senior field operations), and more.

“Our leadership team is energized by the recent and future growth of this company.” Haugen says, “Generation 2 will continue to build upon the foundations constructed over the past 35 years and support our employees to deliver exceptional service, backed by an enhanced level of sophistication and innovation. We believe that our core values – Integrity, Leadership, and Equity – will define our future success.”
