Arapahoe County Completes Facility Upgrades at Lima Plaza Campus

Wold Architects and Engineers, a national architecture and engineering firm with extensive government design expertise and a local office in Denver, recently partnered with Arapahoe County to complete two major facility upgrades at the County’s Lima Plaza campus.

Renovations included the Arapahoe/Douglas Works! resource center, enhancing services for job seekers and employers. Additionally, the remodel of an existing space to house Arapahoe County Public Health, which relocated from a nearby leased space. This work reinforces the county’s commitment to improving accessible community health resources. Both projects support the county’s broader initiative to optimize its owned facilities while adapting to modern workforce trends, including hybrid and remote work practices.

The Arapahoe/Douglas Works! renovations were officially completed in February and offer an array of tools, including resources and workshops for a self-directed job search, one-on-one employment counseling and training assistance. The targeted renovation of the 13,000-square-foot building features updates to public service counters, new meeting spaces, private offices, open work zones and staff support areas. These improvements were designed to better serve local businesses, job seekers and staff and to strengthen the region’s economic resilience. To accommodate hybrid remote work schedules, some office areas include hoteling workstations and collaboration zones for staff connection and teamwork.

The new Arapahoe County Public Health office at the Lima campus serves as a vital hub where the community can access materials and resources related to environmental health and vital records such as birth and death certificates. Emergency preparedness and response work, as well as programs that help prevent disease, reduce accidents, and encourage safety, also operate from the campus. In addition to its community-facing role, the facility will function as a centralized location for administrative operations.

“These upgrades to the Workforce Development and Public Health facilities mark a significant advancement in how we serve our growing community,” said Mike Gouin, director of facilities and fleet management at Arapahoe County. “By reimagining these spaces, we’re creating facilities that can evolve alongside the changing needs of Arapahoe County’s residents and workforce.”

Both projects’ designs have been led by Wold Architects and Engineers. Working closely with county leaders and stakeholders, Wold helped envision a unified campus to serve Arapahoe County’s 650,000 residents more effectively.

“The updates at the Lima Campus provide integrated spaces to support both workforce development and public health services and allow the County to fulfill its goals of more efficient facility operations,” said Aimee LaLone, partner at Wold Architects and Engineers. “As a local firm, we’re excited to see this transformation and reaffirm our commitment to strengthening communities through public service.”
