BMC Investments Appoints Matthew Karp Partner and Chief Investment Officer

BMC Investments (BMC), a Denver-based vertically integrated real estate firm, announced it is expanding its leadership team with the appointment of Matthew Karp as partner and chief investment officer. In this role, Karp will oversee BMC’s investment strategy, acquisitions, development and portfolio and asset management platforms.
“After an exhaustive national search, I believe we found the right leader for BMC, and I’m incredibly excited to welcome Matthew as a partner,” said Matt Joblon, founding partner and CEO of BMC Investments. “His deep expertise and insights will be instrumental as we continue to grow BMC in a strategic and sustainable way.”
Prior to joining BMC, Karp spent more than eight years at Amstar, a $2 billion real estate private equity firm focused on acquiring, developing and managing assets across all major property types in the United States. Most recently serving as CEO, Karp led the firm’s acquisitions, investment strategy and new business initiatives while overseeing asset and portfolio management for Amstar’s U.S. investments.
“I’m honored to join BMC and contribute to the company’s growth and development,” said Karp. “I look forward to helping lead new projects and initiatives that strengthen our portfolio, the team and create enduring value.”
Previously, Karp held senior investment and management roles at Cerberus Capital Management, Savanna Partners, TriSpan LLP and CPG Real Estate, where he was responsible for sourcing, structuring, negotiating and managing opportunistic real estate equity and debt investments across the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean. Karp earned a Bachelor of Science from Cornell University and a Master of Business Administration with honors from Columbia Business School. In 2018, the governor of Puerto Rico appointed Karp to the Board of Trustees of the GDB Debt Recovery Authority, a statutory public trust and government instrumentality of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, a board on which he continues to serve.
The addition of Karp to BMC is part of an intentional expansion of the leadership team as the investment firm continues its growth in the Denver metro area and across the country, including the development of Cherry Lane, the largest redevelopment project in Cherry Creek North.
