Howell Construction has started a significant renovation and expansion of the Boulder Creek Building on the Auraria Campus, creating a single, state-of-the-art home for the Community College of Denver (CCD) Health Sciences programs. Designed by Clark & Enersen, the project includes full modernization of the existing facility along with a new 10,000-square-foot addition on the southeast side.

When complete, the updated Boulder Creek Building will house CCD’s Dental Hygiene, Health and Wellness, Nursing, Phlebotomy / Medical Assisting, Radiologic Technology, Surgical Technology, and Veterinary Technology programs in one centralized location. This consolidation will improve access for students, foster collaboration among departments, and create operational efficiencies for the college.

“We are excited to partner with CCD on a project that will have a lasting impact on Colorado’s healthcare workforce,” said Andrew Gilstrap, vice president at Howell. “By transforming the Boulder Creek Building into a modern learning environment, we’re helping to create the infrastructure needed to train the next generation of healthcare professionals.”

The project will completely update building systems, interiors, and learning spaces while integrating specialized labs and simulation areas tailored to each program’s needs. The design will promote hands-on, experiential learning and cross-disciplinary collaboration. While the BioChem department in the northwest corner of the building will stay occupied throughout construction, Howell team members will take an active role in coordinating construction containment, and communication with the building users.

Once complete, CCD will have the capacity to serve more students, meeting the growing demand for skilled healthcare workers in Colorado’s hospitals, clinics, and veterinary practices.
