1290 Broadway has launched its Artist-in-Residence program, bringing a working artist’s studio to the base of the LEED Platinum office tower in Denver’s Golden Triangle. The pilot initiative sets a benchmark as Denver’s first Class A artist residency, naming acclaimed 20-year Denver designer and artist Jenny West as its inaugural resident.
Led by CBRE Property Management, the program integrates creative production into the daily life of 1290 Broadway while fostering engagement with Denver’s local arts community. It represents a deliberate investment in culture, community, and experience — the qualities that increasingly define the most sought-after buildings of the next decade. 49% of occupiers say amenities and services would make them renew; 50% would relocate for better ones (CBRE Americas Office Occupier Sentiment Survey 2025).
What a true artist residency is
An artist residency provides a dedicated studio where a working artist creates original work on site, allowing tenants and visitors to experience the creative process firsthand. While artist residencies have long been a hallmark of leading museums and universities, 1290 Broadway is adapting the model for the workplace by bringing creative production directly into a Class-A office environment. CBRE has donated 3,815 square feet in the first-floor lobby to the artist for the creation of abstract paintings, mixed-media works, classes, and large-scale installations over the course of six months.
Why it matters to Denver
Located at the edge of Denver’s Golden Triangle, 1290 Broadway is positioned within a district defined by arts, culture and civic institutions. By activating its corner with a working artist, 1290 Broadway aims to further connect the workplace with the neighborhood’s cultural identity, drawing energy to the block and creating new opportunities for tenants, visitors and the surrounding community to engage with local art. By activating its corner with a working artist, 1290 Broadway draws energy to the block, deepens its ties to the neighborhood, and gives tenants an experience no standard amenity can match.
1290 Broadway anchors the edge of Denver’s Golden Triangle — the arts and museum district home to the Denver Art Museum, Clyfford Still Museum, and History Colorado, alongside the city’s civic and legal core — placing creative production at the intersection of Denver’s cultural and civic life.
“Located in the heart of the arts, cultural museum and civic epicenter of Denver, it makes perfect sense to attribute this space to those whose work in this community could be further catalyzed by studio space,” said Whitney Hake, Senior Managing Director at Newmark. “This is what a next-generation office building looks like — one that gives something back to its city.”
The inaugural resident: Jenny West
Jenny West is a Denver-based multimedia artist and designer trained as an interior architect and product designer, with global experience from Italy to Tanzania that shapes her sense of scale, color, and architectural context. She is known for monumental, site-specific installations — most notably her approximately 80-foot-wide sculptural work at 555 17th Street.
At 1290 Broadway, West will produce site-specific commissions for her collectors and for the architects, landlords, and developers who make up her clientele. Open by appointment, the studio will also host pop-up creative talks and art-coaching workshops, contributing directly to Denver’s vibrant arts community.
“A building is architectural context, and context is where my work lives,” said Jenny West. “Having a studio inside 1290 Broadway lets me make work in dialogue with the space and the people who move through it — and open the doors for talks and workshops that give back to Denver’s creative community.”
A model built to lead
1290’s beta offers a new model for how office buildings can differentiate a space, energize a corner, and invest in community. As the program evolves, 1290 Broadway will evaluate opportunities to expand the concept.
The 1290 Broadway studio is open by appointment. To inquire about commissions, talks, or workshops, contact Jenny West at west.jenny.m@gmail.com.
