For more than 25 years, The Academy of Charter Schools has been dedicated to helping students and families achieve their highest academic potential. Over the decades, the school’s hallways have been filled with countless stories of growth, learning, and success.

Now, in alignment with The Academy’s vision — Prepare, Explore, and Empower — the time has come to upgrade and reimagine the Main Campus to better support students in pursuing their strengths and passions. Thanks to the efforts of the Futures Committee, which developed The Academy Facilities Master Plan, the school officially broke ground on its exciting renovation and addition projects on May 14.

Designed by Hord Coplan Macht (HCM) and constructed by JHL Constructors (JHL), the renovation will transform existing spaces to meet the evolving needs of The Academy’s growing community. The project will include a reimagined Performing Arts space, creating centralized and improved collaboration classrooms for Band, Choir, Orchestra, and Theater. It will also introduce a new High School Student Supports area, designed to expand services for academic guidance, behavioral support, and mental health resources.

The project also includes the construction of a new addition on the secondary side of the building, providing much-needed space to accommodate recent additions to student programs and staffing. This expansion will reduce the number of High School teachers who need to travel from classroom to classroom throughout the day and create space for newly added instructional support services and elective offerings in Middle School, allowing the campus to support the community better now and for years to come.

Brent Reckman, executive director of The Academy of Charter Schools, shared his excitement about the project, stating, “We’ve been thrilled to roll out more robust student offerings at The Academy in recent years, and now we’re excited to better support those offerings through newly designed spaces!”

All renovation work is expected to be completed by the start of 2025-26 school year, with the construction of the new addition completing spring of 2026. The project will be strategically phased to ensure that students and teachers experience minimal disruption during the academic year.
