Adolfson & Peterson Construction Breaks Ground on the New UNC Campus Commons
Greeley, CO – Adolfson & Peterson Construction (AP), in partnership with design teams Semple Brown Design and Handprint Architecture, celebrated the groundbreaking of the new and innovative University of Northern Colorado (UNC) Campus Commons project. When complete, this 114,000-sf student recreation center will showcase the University’s world-class music and musical theatre programs.
UNC’s new space will provide the University with state-of-the-art performance, rehearsal and display space for its College of Performing and Visual Arts. Designed to include a 400-seat multi-use auditorium, 600-seat performing arts venue, new student orientation and multiple new student programs, the facility will serve as a community and student gateway to the University.
UNC’s Pride of the Rockies Marching Band led students, staff and faculty in celebrating the October 22 ceremonial groundbreaking where more than 300 people attended, including many surrounding communities. Governor John Hickenlooper made a surprise visit for this monumental event. All those who have been a part of this journey expressed their excitement, gratitude and optimism for the future.
The new campus commons is a unique one-stop-shop where current and prospective students can obtain individualized support services, engage with alumni and form lasting connections to their alma mater.
“AP is excited to be a part of this journey for the University,” said AP Superintendent Brian Yahn. “Having worked on numerous campus projects and being a part of your community, AP is more than ready to begin construction.”
Jason Heustis, Senior Project Manager on the project, “The entire team has worked extremely hard prior to this momentous event – meeting with the design team in preconstruction to evaluate the direction of the project, building materials and preplanning logistics. We are committed to ensuring the University has a smooth construction experience.”
