AGC of Colorado Advocates Workforce Development & Diversity with 2020 Board of Directors

The Associated General Contractors of Colorado (AGC of Colorado) appointed a new board of directors for 2020 with a focus on workforce development at the high school level and greater diversity within the industry. The seven-member management committee that leads the over 600 members of AGC of Colorado includes:

Byron Haselden, chairman of the AGC of Colorado Board and CEO and president of Haselden Construction, comments, “As Chairman, I am excited to build upon the great efforts and trajectory of AGC of Colorado in the areas of workforce development, diversity, and expanding representation in the Northern, Southern, and Western parts of the State. I am also looking for new ways of building membership involvement both in AGC and the Construction Education Foundation (CEF); and growing and sustaining our membership numbers but also partnering with other likeminded associations that support good business in Colorado.”

The concentration on workforce development aligns with AGC of Colorado’s 2018-2020 Strategic Plan and helped spearhead the creation of CEF. This non-profit’s mission is to serve as an advocate for the construction industry by creating and administering programs to recruit, develop, and educate the next generation of construction workers. The three programs include Careers in Construction Colorado, the High School Construction Connection and Construction Careers Now.

In addition to training and developing the next generation of the construction workforce, AGC of Colorado’s Board is also working to ensure a more diverse workforce. AGC of Colorado’s Diversity Committee has grown to over 45 members over the past year, that include both members of MWBE (Minority/Women-Owned Business Enterprises) firms and general and specialty contractors. The committee is tasked with providing collaborative training opportunities for MWBE firms, networking and relationship building events, as well as capacity building opportunities to create greater awareness of upcoming bids on projects.
