AJ Capital Partners, a Nashville, Tennessee-based real estate and hospitality company, has acquired the historic Hotel Boulderado and will embark upon an exciting revitalization in partnership with longtime owners Frank and Gina Day.
With deep respect for the hotel’s storied past, AJ and the Days are committed to preserving Hotel Boulderado’s architectural splendor and role as a cherished amenity while enhancing the guest experience with thoughtfully redesigned guest rooms, refreshed public spaces, and curated food and beverage offerings.
According to the hotel’s website, Hotel Boulderado’s Italian Renaissance and Spanish Revival architectural style was designed by local architects, William Redding & Son. Since opening its doors on New Year’s Eve in 1908, the Hotel Boulderado has served as a cornerstone of the Boulder community for more than 116 years.
“The Boulderado is more than a hotel—it’s the pride of the city, an iconic part of Boulder’s distinct character and charm,” said Ben Weprin, founder of Graduate Hotels and CEO of AJ Capital Partners. “We are thrilled and honored to partner with the Days, who have been passionate stewards of this beloved property for over four decades. Together, we look forward to honoring The Boulderado’s unmistakable spirit, celebrating its history, and introducing thoughtful touches that will elevate the guest experience for generations to come.
A phased renovation is slated to commence later this year. Upon completion, the invigorated Hotel Boulderado will join the Graduate by Hilton collection. The hotel will remain open for business while repairs and improvements are underway. The Hotel Boulderado name will be preserved, along with the property’s signature architectural elements and welcoming sense of place that shape its timeless appeal. The anticipated completion date is spring 2026.
“We have chosen to partner with AJ because of the magnificent work they’ve done with other historic hotels like the Chicago Athletic Association, Randolph Hotel in Oxford, and Rusacks in St. Andrews.” said the Days. “They have the wherewithal to take the Boulderado to the next level.”
As Boulder’s first luxury hotel, Hotel Boulderado has played a pivotal role in the city’s history. Its name—a combination of “Boulder” and “Colorado”—was intended to ensure that visitors would always remember where they stayed. As a designated city landmark, proud member of Historic Hotels of America, and listee on the National Register of Historic Places, the hotel stands as a testament to Boulder’s rich heritage.
