Civitas Celebrates 40 Years

Civitas has been contracted by Jacksonville, Florida’s City Parks Department to redesign Metropolitan Park.

Marking four decades of visionary placemaking, urban design, and landscape architecture, Denver-based Civitas recently launched a redefined brand identity and the unveiling of a dynamic new website. The redesign not only reflects the firm’s rich legacy, it also represents Civitas’ ongoing commitment to enhancing cities.

Since its inception, Civitas has been dedicated to seamlessly integrating nature with urban life, creating places that nurture communities’ health, equity, and sustainability. At the heart of its mission lies a steadfast commitment to prioritizing community needs, understanding each project’s context and objectives before crafting transformative spaces that become the canvas for cities to prosper.

“Building on our decades of design for our clients and their communities, it was only fitting that we take as close a look at our own brand. We’re proud of this new platform and invite our clients and collaborators to explore the new website and gain a clear understanding of what really matters to us,” remarked Scott Jordan, principal at Civitas. “While you’re there, take a moment to meet our team that makes it all happen.”

Civitas teamed up with Pivot Marketing, who guided the year-long process of researching, listening, writing and designing in order to fine tune the messaging and create the new brand platform. A refreshed visual identity reflects Civitas’ ethos of bold design and informs the new website, as well as a full suite of marketing collateral that extends across all digital and print materials.

“Our 40th anniversary marks a pivotal moment for Civitas as we reflect on our journey and embark on the next chapter of innovation,” said Mark Johnson, founder of Civitas. “Our redesigned brand identity and new website illustrate our unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of urban design and creating spaces that inspire and empower communities.”

Civitas recently announced it has been chosen by the City of Jacksonville Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department, in Northeast Florida, to redesign Metropolitan Park. The project is part of the Downtown Investment Authority’s masterplan goals for redevelopment along Downtown portions of the St. Johns River. The full scope of the project will be completed in multiple phases beginning in 2024. The redesign of Metropolitan Park aims to integrate the abundant open space, establish space for intentional use for events and performances, and serve as an example of both sustainable and functional design.
