DL Adams Associates recently completed acoustical consulting services and used computer modeling software to optimize the acoustic performance in the new Mission Ballroom in RiNo. The Mission, a 3,950 capacity, state-of-the-art venue, featuring a first-of-its-kind flexible stage, allowing for a capacity ranging from the max 3,950 down to a more intimate 2,200 and is already attracting the biggest artists in the music industry.
Working closely with AEG Live, the design team at Works Progress Architecture, and Mortenson Construction, DL Adams engineers were able to utilize acoustic analysis software and calculation methodologies to recommend acoustical finishes to optimize the response of the venue. These finishes helped tame reflections of low-frequency energy that are increasingly part of contemporary music performances. The results are a venue sound that Denver music lovers will enjoy for years.
The final recommendations resulted in a combination of spray-on absorptive material and mesh-faced deep mineral fiber treatments on many of the surfaces. In addition, DLAA also specified attenuators in the HVAC ductwork and isolators for the mechanical to reduce background noise in the venue. The results of the project were so impressive that they were featured in an October issue in Sound Communications magazine.
