Trailhead Community, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping individuals with developmental disabilities lead independent and productive lives, is currently developing an 80 unit apartment complex in south Jefferson County near Bowles and C470. 50 percent of the units will be allocated for adults with developmental disabilities and the other 50 percent will be occupied by seniors and working professionals. A cooperative management model will integrate all of the tenants together to create an intentional and synergistic community.
KGA Studio Architects is the architect of record for the new community. The building includes state-of-the-art technology and “Universal Design” features to promote independence and safety for all residents. An on-site concierge staff will provide 24/7 oversite for health and safety, facilitation of social events, coordination of meal preparation and to nurturing engagement and mutual support between tenants. The project has many unique and intentional features to promote community including a sport court, sound-proof multimedia room for music, large screen viewing and mini jam sessions, a community kitchen and common dining room serving optional meals daily, an art studio and large common areas both indoors and outdoors.
The concept for the Trailhead Community was inspired by the success of Stepping Stone Support Center, a sister company established in 2013. The Support Center provides services to adults with disabilities such as pre vocational and life skills training, job placement, job coaching, social events and community connections.
Many of the participants who have received services through the support center will be eligible for independent living at Trailhead Community due to their success in the program. The developers are now soliciting seniors and professionals who are interested in living in an active and collaborative community.
Other project partners include general contractor K2 Residential Solutions, Anchor Engineering, Principal Land Planning, and Given & Associates. The project is expected to break ground in the Spring of 2021.
