Construction Begins on 62-Unit Affordable Senior Community in Virginia Village

A new affordable senior living community has begun construction in Denver’s Virginia Village neighborhood through a joint venture between local real estate development firms Lexton McDermott and Kentro Group.

Scheduled for completion by the end of this year, Lynwood Senior Apartments was designed by Lewis Himes Associates and the project’s general contractor is Brinkman Construction.

Located near the corner of S. Holly Street and E. Atlantic Place, the apartment community will provide 62 affordable senior housing units to residents who are 62 years of age and older. The building’s construction marks another critical step forward in reducing housing instability among Denver’s senior residents.

The three-story building will offer 62 income-restricted affordable housing units with well-appointed kitchens, bathrooms, walk-in closets, and air conditioning for all residents. The community will also provide a range of amenities including an exercise room, outdoor patio, a community room, and supportive services provided by Eaton Senior Communities. The complex is also well situated to provide accessible transportation options to its residents including onsite parking and easy access to RTD bus stops.

Colorado-based multi-family housing developer, Lexton McDermott, is leading the development of the project in partnership with Kentro Group and with support from the Denver Housing Authority and the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA).

“Denver is in great need of additional affordable housing supply to accommodate our increasing senior population,” said Michael Lengen, Principal at Lexton McDermott. “We are proud to be making a small impact by bringing an additional 62 units of high quality, affordable housing to our community.”
