Denver Summit FC Breaks Ground at Santa Fe Yards

Denver Summit FC officially broke ground on October 1 on its highly anticipated permanent stadium project at Santa Fe Yards. Joined by civic leaders, community partners, and club supporters, the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club celebrated the start of construction on the transformative 14-acre sports and entertainment district located at South Broadway and Interstate 25.

“It means the world to have a dedicated space created specifically for our team and women’s soccer right here in my hometown,” said Lindsey Heaps, captain and midfielder for Denver Summit FC. “Every time we step on the field, we feel the incredible passion and support of this community, and we could not be more excited to see that come to life at Santa Fe Yards. This groundbreaking represents far more than just a new facility. We are laying the foundation for something that future generations of athletes and fans can take pride in for years to come.”

The updated design, by world-renowned stadium architect Populous, emphasizes vibrant social spaces for fans to gather and connect, expanded terraces, and enhanced matchday experiences. The club also confirmed its updated construction timeline, targeting completion by the end of 2028.

“Breaking ground at Santa Fe Yards is a monumental milestone for our club, our fans, and the City of Denver,” said Denver Summit FC Controlling Owner Rob Cohen. “Working alongside Populous, we have designed a venue that is intentionally built for women’s professional sports and tailored to our community. By prioritizing dynamic social spaces and a flexible, close-to-the-pitch seating configuration, we are creating an electric matchday environment while keeping match accessibility and affordability at the forefront.”

The updated stadium design features a fixed seating capacity of 12,500, with expanded standing-room-only (SRO) safe standing zones bringing total venue capacity to 13,000. The refined architecture was deliberately adjusted to prioritize fan experience, atmosphere, and accessibility. The revised footprint allocates additional space for open-air social gathering zones, intimate fan seating, and local food and beverage spaces, while ensuring Denver Summit FC can deliver a wide array of ticket price points for every fan across Colorado.

“Today’s groundbreaking is about more than a new stadium — it’s about building opportunity and creating a place where Denver’s future can take shape,” said Denver Mayor Mike Johnston. “Santa Fe Yards will give Denver Summit FC a permanent home while bringing new investment, new energy and new possibilities to this part of our city. We’re proud to be building a place where girls and boys can see what’s possible, where athletes can pursue their dreams, and where families and fans can come together. Denver has always been a city that believes in what we can build together, and this project is another step toward a city where every generation has the opportunity to belong, participate and thrive.”

With the target completion date set for the end of 2028, Denver Summit FC anticipates playing the majority of its 2028 NWSL regular-season home matches at Centennial Stadium, its current venue and home to the CommonSpirit Performance Center.

The club extends its gratitude to its partners, CAA Icon, Populous, and Mortenson, in association with Gratacon, for collaborating to turn a bold vision into what will be a world-class home for Denver Summit FC and the surrounding community.
