East Colfax Businesses Vote on Tax Increase for Improvements

View here

A proposed 40 percent Business Improvement District tax rate hike aimed at carrying out the district’s improvement plan, could soon be in store for businesses between East 16th and East 14th avenues and from Grant Street to Josephine Street.

The tax increase would authorize the Colfax Business Improvement District to increase the mill levy on commercial properties within the district from 7.846 mills to 11 mills, an increase of 3.154 mills. A proposal that has some residents feeling very uninformed and concerned about the increase.

Improvements along Colfax would include:

  • New marketing and branding.
  • Safety measures.
  • More trees and public art along the corridor.
  • Enhanced lighting.
  • And a protected bike lane.
