The Denver Housing Authority (DHA) will officially open Eats on the Platte, a new food hall and small business incubator in Denver’s Sun Valley neighborhood, on Friday, Oct. 30. Bringing together five local food entrepreneurs offering diverse culinary concepts, with additional vendors expected in 2027, Eats on the Platte marks the latest milestone in DHA’s ongoing transformation of Sun Valley into a connected, mixed-income neighborhood with opportunities for residents and local businesses.

Eats on the Platte is designed to serve as both a launchpad for emerging food entrepreneurs and a neighborhood gathering place. Through affordable restaurant stalls and a professional commissary kitchen, the food hall will help vendors establish and grow their businesses while creating a welcoming destination for residents and visitors. By reducing traditional barriers to opening a restaurant, Eats on the Platte aims to expand economic opportunities while celebrating the cultures, traditions and people that make Sun Valley unique.

“Building housing is only one part of creating a strong, connected neighborhood. We also have to think about the businesses, amenities and opportunities that make a community thrive,” said Kent Wimbush, senior development manager at the Denver Housing Authority. “Eats on the Platte brings that vision to life by creating a space where local entrepreneurs can take the next step in growing their businesses, residents can gather and connect and Sun Valley’s unique culture can be celebrated and shared with the rest of Denver.”

Located adjacent to the new 5-acre Riverfront Park along the South Platte River, which broke ground on October 21 and is expected to open to the public in late 2027, Eats on the Platte will offer coffee, lunch, dinner, and sweet treats while supporting independent food businesses. The food hall will open with five local concepts: La Brewjula Cafe, Jalapeño Business, Jama Miami Cuban, Corazón de Tita (Micahfe) and Wing Social Co. (by Konjo Ethiopian). Each vendor brings a distinct menu, culinary perspective and personal story, reflecting the diverse backgrounds and food traditions of Denver’s communities.

The food hall will be operated in partnership with Kitchen Network, Denver’s largest and longest-running commissary kitchen and food business incubator, which supports approximately 100 specialty food businesses each year. Through the partnership, Eats on the Platte vendors will have access to professional kitchen infrastructure, operational resources and business support to help them navigate the challenges of launching and growing a food business.

“Eats on the Platte gives local entrepreneurs a place to turn their passion into a thriving business while creating something special for the Sun Valley neighborhood,” said Erin Clark, chief real estate investment officer at the Denver Housing Authority. “Food has always been a way to bring people together, and we want this to be a place where neighbors connect, cultures are celebrated and small businesses can grow. Our hope is that Eats on the Platte becomes a gathering place that Sun Valley residents are proud to call their own and that people from across Denver come to experience.”

Eats on the Platte is part of DHA’s broader, long-term investment in Sun Valley, a historically diverse neighborhood once known as “The Bottoms,” where generations of families have shaped a rich cultural identity and strong sense of community. DHA’s redevelopment efforts include replacing aging public housing with new mixed-income communities, improving neighborhood connections and expanding access to fresh food, parks and community amenities. Together, these investments are reconnecting Sun Valley to the South Platte River and surrounding neighborhoods while creating new places for residents to live, work and gather.

Eats on the Platte will officially open to the public on Friday, Oct. 30, at 4 p.m. as part of DHA’s Trick or Treat celebration in Sun Valley.
