Colorado Housing and Finance Authority’s (CHFA) annual David W. Herlinger Golf Tournament raised $150,000 for NEWSED Community Development Corporation on Tuesday, August 13, 2024. Headquartered in Denver, NEWSED promotes community development to underserved populations in Colorado by providing navigation for housing services, nurturing small businesses, and promoting asset creation. NEWSED successfully creates social and financial stability in the lives of families and individuals with low to moderate incomes.
“NEWSED CDC is very grateful for the partnership with CHFA,” said Andrea Barela, president and CEO of NEWSED. “We value and honor our collective missions to serve communities and families throughout Colorado.”
Throughout its more than 50-year history, NEWSED’s programs and initiatives have evolved to meet the ever-changing needs of its community. Today, NEWSED offers a range of programs including homebuyer education, down payment assistance, financial coaching, asset creation, community events, and support for small businesses.
“NEWSED has demonstrated a longstanding commitment to its community by investing in underserved populations and neighborhoods throughout the Denver metro area,” said Cris White, CHFA executive director and CEO. “CHFA is proud to support NEWSED’S outstanding work, which aligns with CHFA’s work to ensure everyone in Colorado will have the opportunity for housing stability and economic prosperity.”
CHFA’s annual golf tournament raises proceeds to benefit a local nonprofit whose work coincides with CHFA’s mission of affordable housing and community development. The 2024 tournament was held at Arrowhead Golf Club in Littleton. The event is named in memory of CHFA’s former Executive Director, David W. Herlinger, who passed away in 2012. It serves as a reminder of his passion for the game of golf, and for helping local nonprofit organizations whose work supports affordable housing and community development in Colorado.
