Solvista Health and GH Phipps have broken ground on a new mental health facility in Salida that will provide holistic care to individuals and their families. The architect is HGF Architects.

The new 15,000-square-foot mental health facility will house services devoted to substance use withdrawal treatment, acute mental health treatment, respite care, 24/7 crisis services, and other short-term respite care. Construction is taking place on the Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center campus in Chaffee County.

Construction will be in three different phases:

  • Phase one will concentrate on developing a child and family behavioral health center. Designed around principles reflecting the latest in trauma-informed, family-centered treatment practices, the center will help facilitate effective evidence-based treatment including play therapy, talk therapy, family therapy, psychiatry, and more.
  • Phase two will introduce physical and wellness components of health including physical therapy, fitness, pain management, a fostering for creativity, mindfulness, and a healthy lifestyle.
  • Phase three is dedicated to breaking outside the four walls of clinical care. This will focus on getting influence into the homes of the community to continue promoting healthier lifestyles and ways of living. The goal is to not only help those coming in for treatment but also to keep people from needing to come in at all.

Given $700,000 in grant money from the state of Colorado in February of 2020 to launch construction, additional funds are still being raised to help accomplish the building development that will make Chaffee County and Colorado residents proud of their new facility.
