Howell Construction, a locally owned, full-service general contracting firm, has completed improvements to the Holyoke School District Junior/Senior High School. Howell was hired as design-builder for the BEST grant project.
Partnered with Wold Architects and Engineers, the project team received Notice to Proceed with design work in mid-January 2021 and completed all construction work in August 2021, just in time for the 2021-2022 school year. The design was completed by May and over $4 million in construction improvements were executed in under three months while school was not in session.

The renovation scope was spread throughout the school and included a new secure entry vestibule, administration offices, warming kitchen, training room, junior high locker rooms, senior high locker rooms, coach and referee offices/lockers/restrooms, weight room, and wrestling room. In addition, a new, full-service elevator was added.
“Completing ‘summer wonder’ school renovation projects is a challenge in itself. This project also faced global supply chain issues and a remote site location, further complications for an already aggressive design and construction schedule. We are proud of the work our team completed within a very short window at Holyoke,” said Andy Stewart, vice president at Howell.
