In a remarkable display of community collaboration and generosity, Excel Roofing, alongside the Colorado Roofing Association (CRA), Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver, and GAF, recently came together to provide a brand-new roof for a building dedicated to serving underprivileged families in the Denver area.
The project, Habitat At Augustana, located at 5134 E Dakota Ave Denver, is a development by Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver, consisting of eight new homes in the Washington Virginia Vale neighborhood. These residences offer three- and four-bedroom layouts, each with two bathrooms, outdoor green spaces, and dedicated parking. The homes feature all-electric appliances and enhanced wall insulation to help keep utility costs low.
Led by Zach McDonald, production manager at Excel Roofing, the project took shape through meticulous planning and coordination. With the support of Neal DeLange, superintendent for Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver, the teams developed a comprehensive strategy to ensure a smooth and successful roofing installation. Despite facing scheduling challenges and the unpredictable Colorado weather, the project team remained steadfast in their mission.
As a proud member of the CRA, Excel Roofing volunteered its expertise to install the roof, reaffirming the company’s deep commitment to giving back to the community. The high-quality roofing materials, GAF’s Pewter Gray shingles from the Timberline AS II line, were generously donated by GAF, ensuring a durable and long-lasting solution for the building. Spanning approximately 2,600 square feet, the roof covered a duplex, including the main structure and porches.
Throughout the installation process, Zach and the Excel Roofing team demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication, ensuring that every element of the roof was executed to perfection. Neal DeLange worked closely with Zach to coordinate construction phases, ensuring alignment between the roofing installation and the broader building project.
As the project neared completion, the transformation of the building became evident, marking a significant milestone for the families who would soon call it home. The new roof not only enhanced the building’s aesthetic appeal but also provided a safe, secure, and lasting shelter for future residents. With Habitat for Humanity’s mission of building affordable housing, this initiative directly contributed to creating a stable and supportive environment for families in need.
“This project was about more than just installing a roof—it was about providing hope, security, and a sense of home to families in need,” said Zach McDonald, production manager at Excel Roofing. “We are incredibly proud to have partnered with CRA, Habitat for Humanity, and GAF to make this vision a reality.”
“Giving back to families in need across Colorado should be more widespread. At Excel Roofing, we believe in giving back frequently in hopes of inspiring others to do the same.” — Henry Bretz, vice president, Excel Roofing.
Through this initiative, several families in Denver now have a safe place to call home, thanks to the generosity and expertise of all those involved. The collaboration between Excel Roofing, CRA, Habitat for Humanity, and GAFunderscores the importance of community partnerships in making a lasting impact.
