On August 29, JHL Constructors joined Stargate School and HCM and community officials to celebrate the ribbon-cutting of the Stargate Primary and Secondary Expansion in Thornton — a project that adds more room to learn, perform, compete and connect while enhancing campus safety and security. As one of Colorado’s premier K-12 charter schools serving gifted learners from kindergarten through high school, students and families have spent the past several months watching new spaces take shape just outside their classroom windows.
The project includes three additions at the primary school totaling 11,713 square feet and three additions at the secondary school totaling 19,178 square feet. At the Primary School, the additions include a new entry vestibule at the classroom wing, a CHSAA-regulation gymnasium with restrooms, and expanded office space.
At the secondary school, the expansion includes an enlarged kitchen, new vocal and instrumental music classrooms, a new library that has quickly become one of the most anticipated spaces on campus for high school students, and six additional classrooms. Supporting work in both buildings modernized security and access-control systems, intercom systems, and existing entry and vestibule configurations to help improve safety and security for students, staff and visitors.
“JHL has been an exceptional partner throughout this project. From day one, their highest priorities were ensuring the safety of our students and staff while minimizing disruptions to our school community, and they consistently approached every decision with integrity, professionalism, and a true spirit of partnership,” says Stargate’s Executive Director Dr. Robin Greene. “We are incredibly grateful for their commitment to our school and the lasting impact of their work.”
A portion of the construction was completed on an occupied campus, requiring careful coordination with school leadership, staff and project partners to support daily operations and minimize disruptions while construction progressed.
“One of the most rewarding parts of this project was watching students engage with the work as it happened,” said Ryan Pilbeam, JHL superintendent. “We created a learning experience where Kindergarten students were able to walk around some construction equipment and ask questions about the construction happening on their campus. It was the highlight of this project for me.”
The project reflects Stargate’s continued commitment to supporting a dynamic K-12 learning environment for its students and community. JHL is proud to support Stargate’s mission with these new spaces to support their gifted learners.
