On the evening of Thursday, September 21, JHL Constructors and Aurora Public Schools (APS) celebrated the grand opening of the new Aurora Highlands P-8. This momentous occasion was celebrated by The Aurora Highlands (TAH) community as well as administration, students, and staff.

Erin Ray, the JHL project manager, stated “The success of this project was truly a team effort, and we’re thrilled to see Highlands P-8 come to life and serve as a vibrant educational campus where students can thrive and express themselves.”

As CM/GC, JHL collaborated with Hord Coplan Macht (HCM) and RB+B Architects on the expansive 106,656-square-foot state-of-the-art facility. Serving 1,000 students, the new school boasts modern learning spaces, a well-equipped library, a full-service kitchen and more.

Attendees heard inspiring remarks from key figures including School Principal Josh Cooley, Superintendent Michael Giles, Jr., Board of Education Director Michael Carter, Student Speaker Rose Vazquez Montoya, and TAH Principal and Director of Onsite Development Carla Ferreira.

Rose Vazquez Montoya, a 7th-grade student, shared her heartfelt thoughts, “This environment has allowed me to grow, not just academically but as a person. I truly treasure the people and the atmosphere at Highlands P-8 as they’ve given me a safe space and platform to showcase who I truly am.”

The festivities were further enhanced with balloon animals, face painting, and guided tours of the impressive building, led by both students and staff.
