On August 11, JHL Constructors celebrated the milestone completion of Cherry Creek School’s Woodland Elementary with an official ribbon-cutting celebration shared with school administration, students, and staff in Aurora.
“Hard to believe that just 13 months ago this was just a vacant lot. In the past year, this team has stepped up to overcome a challenging project in a very difficult market. Seeing the smiling faces today makes it all worthwhile. Today our team is excited to celebrate all of our hard work with the community, staff, and especially the students,” said Ryan May, senior project manager, overseeing the project on behalf of JHL.
Located within the Blackstone neighborhood in the southeast corner of Cherry Creek School District, the new school is
82,000 square feet and will offer services for 650 students in grades Pre-K through fifth.
Designed by RTA Architects, the building embodies a modern aesthetic and offers clean lines and strong forms integrated across two stories. Inside, there are multiple direct connections to the outdoors ensuring bright learning opportunities in cluster classrooms, a maker-space, art room, library, and gym-a-torium that blends a performance stage and competitive size basketball court.
Named in March, the elementary school will be the new home of the bold, brave, and brilliant Bears. The start of the school year began August 15.
May added, “I’m proud of what this team did for Woodland and can’t wait to see the facility utilized by the students and community.”
