DENVER – McCarthy Building Companies, Inc, the oldest privately held national construction company in America, recently moved into its new home in Denver’s Platte Street neighborhood. Located at 2401 15th Street in the historic A.H. Root Building, McCarthy worked with TreanorHL Architecture on the interior design to finish the 6,000-square-foot, third-floor space. Keiding did the space plan. Originally built in 1890, the 51,872-square-foot building has been on the National Register of Historic Places for decades.

“Wherever possible, we tried to get down to the original building” said Justin Peterson, project director with McCarthy who also oversaw construction on the project. “Our space is a great mixture of old and new.” “It showcases the original elements of the building as well as being a current, sophisticated space our employees are excited about,” added Katy Corrigan, McCarthy director of business development, who helped open the firm’s Colorado office in 2014. Currently, McCarthy has more than $50 million of work under contract in the state.

The space features exposed brick, original timber framing, and natural light from a large skylight. In addition to these original features, McCarthy added custom elements by building breakroom tables from steel piles used on the firm’s local solar projects topped with a concrete slab, rough sawn concrete panels for the reception desk, and their own sliding barn door as an architectural feature.

“We are proud to be a part of a neighborhood that reflects the creativity and innovation alive in Denver right now,” said Kevin Williams, senior vice president for McCarthy in Colorado. “For the past 25 years, we have worked in the state. In 2014, we made a commitment to open a full-service office here. Today, we have a talented, local team passionate about serving our clients in the Front Range. Moving into the heart of the city, to a neighborhood that reflects Denver’s growth, aligns with our approach to building work locally.”
