Atlas Real Estate Announces New Hires

Denver-based Atlas Real Estate announced the hiring of three new team members:

Amos Smith, Investment Specialist

Amos Smith

In 2020 Amos retired from corporate America after 30 years, most of which was in the telecommunications industry where he held various positions culminating in CFO of Layer 3TV, a Denver-based startup that he successfully helped sell to T-Mobile. His journey into real estate investing started in 2004 when he purchased his first rental home in University Hills as a pseudo 529 college education plan for his kids then 7, 6, and 2. In 2015, Amos became an Atlas client when he met Mike Hills at Atlas who introduced him to multifamily investing. Amos currently owns 23 doors in Colorado ranging from single-family to 6-unit apartments and is looking to expand into Arizona. Thanks to those rental investments his three kid’s college educations have all been paid in full. His goal at Atlas as an investment specialist is to help others use the same method to cover the cost of their children’s education and/or achieve financial freedom through real estate investing. Amos has a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado and an MBA from the University of Kansas.

Beth Hurford, Investment Specialist

She became an agent in 2018 and has specialized in investment properties ever since.

Derek Varnell

Encore Electric has promoted Derek Varnell to lead the Wyoming and Northern Colorado Business Unit, where he will be responsible for all business operations and projects. He will oversee a team of 150 industry professionals, including craftspeople, service technicians and field support staff dedicated to executing projects of all sizes, from large, high-end commercial and manufacturing builds to mission-critical data centers, hospitals and schools.

He has led teams to help expand Colorado State University, the University of Colorado, schools in the Adams and Poudre Valley school districts, as well as a significant remote project in Washington State. While he enjoys the opportunity to help change the face of educational campuses, Varnell’s favorite projects are data centers because they are highly technical electrical systems.
