CBRE Expands Denver-Based Hotels Team

CBRE has announced that Christy McDougall has joined its Denver office as a senior associate specializing in hotels. She joins the CBRE Hotels team in Denver, led by Mark Darrington and Larry Kaplan, focusing on providing hospitality brokerage and advisory services to hotel and resort owners, investors, lenders and developers.

McDougall comes to CBRE with over 25 years of experience in the hotel industry, including three years in hotel real estate at Marcus & Millichap in Denver. Her background includes experience in the hotel and resort franchise world at Wyndham Hotels & Resorts as a quality assurance inspector, franchise service advisor and marketing director, as well as experience selling Denver conventions for the CVB and various upscale resorts and hotels in Colorado. 

“Christy is the perfect addition to our team with her deep understanding of the hospitality industry in Colorado and knowledge of what our clients need,” said Darrington. “She brings a unique perspective to our team; we’re excited to start working with her.”

According to CBRE’s recent U.S. Hotel Investor Inventions Survey 2025, Denver ranked among the 15 most attractive markets for hotel investment in North America. The CBRE Hotels team was ranked as the #1 brokerage in Denver in 2024 according to Real Estate Alert.

With over a decade of experience in real estate and a unique blend of skills in design, marketing, and business strategy, Erika brings a wealth of expertise to the firm.

Erika’s journey into commercial real estate began in 2010 when she started as an investor. She first gained experience by owning a duplex and multiple single-family homes before expanding into commercial properties and participating in several syndications. These hands-on experiences, paired with her education and passion for real estate, motivated Erika to obtain her real estate license and focus on the commercial sector.

With over 15 years of experience running her own graphic design business, Erika has developed an extensive network of entrepreneurs and small businesses, further enhancing her ability to serve her clients’ needs.

Piper Sandler Announces Promotion

Piper Sandler announced that Blaine Hawkins has been promoted to associate vice president with the Special District Group. Hawkins joined the team in early 2022 and has been a tremendous asset as Piper Sandler builds out its future leadership bench in Colorado.

Hawkins is co-head of the Community Impact Committee in Piper Sandler’s Denver Office and has led several of the firm’s community outreach events. He is a graduate of Central College and is a winner of the Gagliardi Trophy, awarded annually to the most outstanding NCAA Division III football athlete in the nation.
