Piper Sandler Special District Group Promotes Six

The Denver office of the Piper Sandler Special District Group, a specialty financing group with more than 30 years of experience helping to fund public infrastructure for new development, announced the following promotions:

Mike Sullivan has been promoted from senior vice president to managing director. Sullivan brings more than eight years of debt, capital markets and special district finance experience to the team. He is responsible for the Colorado and Utah special district practices in areas such as transaction execution, debt structuring, disclosure and document review, financial modeling and coordination of credit rating process. He works with clients at all phases of the development cycle, ranging from early-stage, non-rated transactions to investment-grade refinancings. Before joining Piper Sandler, Sullivan was a vice president at D.A. Davidson & Co. with a similar focus on special district financings. Prior to that, he served as a financial analyst at Goldman Sachs in Dallas, Texas. Additionally, Sullivan serves as a board member for HomeAid Colorado. Sullivan earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration at the University of Colorado Boulder.

Simon Egerton

Sydney Burnett has been promoted from associate to senior associate in the special district group at Piper Sandler, specializing in special district and tax increment financing. Burnett joined the firm out of graduate school where she earned a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in finance from the Icy College of Business at Iowa State University.  She also earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Iowa State University.

Simon Egerton has been promoted from associate to senior associate in the special district group at Piper Sandler, located in the firm’s Denver office. Within the special district group, Egerton focuses on business development, business intelligence, national research, and quantitative work. Prior to joining Piper Sandler, Egerton earned a bachelor’s in economics from the University of Colorado, Boulder, as well as a master’s degree in real estate from the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado, Boulder.

Akio Ohtake-Gordon

Katie McVeyhas been promoted from associate to senior associate in the special district group at Piper Sandler, specializing in special district financing. Prior to joining Piper Sandler, McVey was a senior deals consultant at PwC specializing in Capital Markets and Accounting Advisory Services, with a focus on mergers and acquisitions, large-scale divestitures, and initial public offerings. McVey is a certified public accountant. She earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from The College of William & Mary and a Master of Accounting from The College of William & Mary.

Jack Oliver

Akio Ohtake-Gordon has been promoted from associate to senior associate in the special district group at Piper Sandler and works within the Colorado Special District practice. In his first two years with the firm, he has assisted senior bankers in serving as sole underwriter, private placement agent, and financial advisor on Municipal Bond transactions totaling $1.3 billion in par.  He works with clients at all periods of the development cycle to structure financings that meet their goals, ranging from early-stage non-rated transactions to fully built investment-grade rated financings and re-financings. Prior to Piper Sandler, Ohtake-Gordon was a senior operations associate at Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors, a private equity/hedge fund based out of Los Angeles that focuses on real estate, credit, infrastructure/energy, renewables, and growth equity. Ohtake-Gordon earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in finance from Loyola Marymount University, where he also played four years of NCAA Division 1 soccer.

John Oliver has been promoted from associate to senior quantitative associate in the special district group at Piper Sandler. Oliver’s primary responsibilities are financial modeling and quantitative work centered around special district debt. His career began as a product development engineer in the railroad industry where his curiosity for business and finance led him back to school for his MBA. Post-graduation, he worked in financial planning & analysis at MAXAR Technologies, modeling satellite image movement in cloud-computing environments before joining the special district group in March 2022.

 

Studio K2 Architecture Adds Three New Team Members

Studio K2 Architecture (SK2) today announced it has added three new full-time hires to the firm.

Steffen Meeks, a U.S. Army veteran with seven years of service, joins SK2 full-time as a designer after interning with the firm last semester. Meeks attained his bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of Colorado at Denver College of Architecture and Planning in 2022. Also joining the firm as designers are Frank Laborde and Tucker Saunders. Laborde brings more than five years of experience to the firm and has a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Saunders is a 2022 graduate of CU Denver’s College of Architecture and Planning.

SK2’s expanded team is supporting several current projects in the studio, including Madelon Group’s prefabricated, multifamily, for-rent development at 801 Santa Fe Drive in Denver. The firm is also working on The Stanley Mine, a hospitality project in Idaho Springs, and ongoing upgrade projects for Griffis Residential as well as other retail/restaurant and cannabis projects across the country.
