The Northern Colorado Construction Sector Partnership (NOCO CSP) will host its second annual Construction Con event at the Ranch Events Complex in Loveland on October 25 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This hands-on, immersive construction experience will provide approximately 750 high school students from schools across Northern Colorado the opportunity to explore the multitude of career opportunities and different pathways into the industry. Over 250 industry and education representatives from different sectors, companies, universities, associations, and apprenticeship programs are providing either an activity booth, a pathway booth, or volunteering to encourage these students to consider a career in construction.
“One of our focal points is to improve the perception of who we are as an industry, what we do, and all we provide within our communities,” said Amy Powell, board co-chair at Northern Colorado Construction Sector Partnership. “When this impact is better understood and appreciated, community members are more amiable to see it as the good and viable career path that it truly is and can be for themselves, their family members, or their students.”
Construction Con will feature various hands-on activities that will expose students to different construction trades, such as carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, and welding, that they likely wouldn’t be exposed to otherwise. Students will also have the opportunity to learn about different career pathways in the industry, such as project management, engineering, and architecture.
“Construction Con is a great opportunity for high school students to learn about the many different career opportunities available in the construction industry,” said Powell. “We hope that this event will inspire students to consider a career in construction and help to address the workforce shortage that our industry is facing.”
