Northstar Commercial Partners CEO Says He’ll Keep His Current Job if Elected Colorado Treasurer

Brian Watson, Republican candidate for Colorado Treasurer, has promised not to take a state pay check if elected. Instead he says he will continue as chairman and CEO of his company, Northstar Commercial Partners, as he has a fiduciary responsibility with his current investors.

Jane Feldman, former executive director of the Colorado Independent Ethics Commission and now an ethics consultant in Denver, says that Watson’s failure to step down or place his assets in a blind trust would be a conflict of interest, but Watson promises he will give the treasurer seat its full-time due and will only work with his commercial real estate investment company a few hours per week or month.
