Platte Valley School District Weld RE-7 celebrated the completion of its new Platte Valley Middle School on August 7 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by students, families, community members, district leadership, and RB+B Architects. Following the ceremony, guests were invited to explore the new facility through self-guided tours ahead of welcoming students for the first day of school on August 18.
The new 130,198-square-foot middle school represents a transformational investment in the future of Platte Valley students and the community. Designed to support 500 students, the facility includes approximately 25 modern classrooms, science labs, a Career and Technical Education (CTE) workshop, a library and media center, a secure main entrance, a spacious two-story commons, outdoor learning areas, a fieldhouse with two gyms and wrestling space, a multipurpose performing arts area, and upgraded site amenities that enhance the overall campus experience. The new fieldhouse is designed to host the annual Platte Valley Little American Royal Livestock show. The new middle school will have full-stage theater equipment with collapsible seating to convert the space into a multi-purpose room.
The school was designed by RB+B Architects, with Agora West serving as the owner’s representative and JHL Constructors leading construction.
Jeremy Burmeister, superintendent of schools, reflected, “This is the second project we have partnered with JHL on in five years, and I continue to be blown away by their ability and effort to exceed expectations and continuously work to ‘do the right thing.” We are very appreciative of the efforts from the JHL team. They have been a true partner to Platte Valley School District and public education in every sense of the word.”
He added, “This building represents far more than bricks and mortar. It reflects our community’s commitment to the belief in public education to help us work towards a better tomorrow. It reflects our community’s awareness that today’s youth will be the adults leading our country in the future. The new middle school gives our students and staff a thoughtful, intentionally designed building that will allow for more effective collaboration and innovation.”
For JHL Constructors, the project represents not only the completion of a significant educational facility, but also the continuation of a long-standing partnership with Platte Valley School District.
“After more than 40 years in construction, this stands out as one of the most challenging and rewarding projects I’ve had the privilege to be part of,” said Randy Totsch, JHL superintendent. “Having previously worked with the District and seeing the trust they’ve placed in our team once again has made this project especially meaningful. Watching this building come together through the dedication of every craft, trade partner and project team member has been incredibly rewarding, and we’re proud to deliver a facility that will serve this community for decades.”

Construction of the new middle school was completed on schedule in preparation for the start of the 2026-2027 school year. The project is part of Platte Valley School District Weld RE-7’s long- term vision to provide modern educational environments that support student success while strengthening the district’s commitment to serving the community for generations to come.
