DENVER — Colorado Rockies Owner/Chairman and CEO Dick Monfort has officially named the West Lot project McGregor Square, in honor of the Rockies’ late president, Keli S. McGregor. The project is currently under construction across the street from Coors Field.
“I was so humbled when Dick brought up the name and asked how I felt about it,” said Lori McGregor, Keli’s wife. “To choose to put Keli’s name on a project like this—right next to Coors Field and a place that my kids, grandkids and future generations will be able to enjoy—Dick and the Rockies organization have created a place that, with each visit, we can pay tribute to Keli for years to come. This is such a special honor for our entire family.”
Under McGregor’s leadership and to this day, the Rockies organization encourages innovation with the mission to provide a first-class Coors Field experience for every person who walks through its gates. It was McGregor who first saw a future in developing the West Lot, so it is even more fitting that his spirit of innovation will now permeate McGregor Square as well.
“McGregor Square not only extends the legacy of Keli, our beloved friend and leader of the Rockies’ organization,” said Colorado Rockies Owner/Chairman & CEO Dick Monfort. “It is also an ideal extension of Coors Field, providing an exciting place to congregate year-round, with something for everyone. We are all very excited to see McGregor Square come to life.”
Slated to open Jan. 1, 2021, McGregor Square will encompass 655,000 square feet of residential and commercial space, creating a vibrant, year-round complement to Coors Field. Three separate buildings will surround a 29,000-square-foot open content plaza, with the buildings housing 112 private residences, a 176-room hotel, restaurants, retail stores, commercial office space and multiple entertainment spaces.
The Colorado Rockies will serve as project developer for the West Lot transformation. Hensel Phelps will be the general contractor while Denver based Stantec, will serve as lead architectural designer, with multiple Stantec offices contributing. The firm’s Boulder, CO-based visioning, brands, and experiences group is the lead experience designer while Stantec’s Chicago-based architecture group will provide the hotel design.
“We were honored and privileged to be a part of today’s naming ceremony for McGregor Square, alongside the Colorado Rockies,” said John Yonushewski, Stantec’s senior principal in charge of project architecture and design. “Our goal from the beginning has been to create Denver’s ‘next great place,’ design a year-round community gathering space, and enhance the gameday experience for fans and visitors alike. We look forward to seeing that vision materialize for future generations to enjoy.”
