“From the sand-blasted artwork in the walkways to the nature discovery area, this park is a beautiful and functional area for the community to gather,” said Taylor Kohrs’ Project Manager Patrick Kemmesat. “The City of Thornton is very excited about the custom-made soccer pitch because it’s a new amenity that many city parks do not offer.”
Originally, the project plans called for sourcing the soccer pitch materials from a German company; yet, concern for receiving the materials in time to meet the project schedule during a pandemic necessitated a change in those plans. Design Concepts, The City of Thornton and Taylor Kohrs worked together to identify a U.S.-based contractor to build and deliver the same quality of product – at a lower cost and within the project timeline.
The park will include an area with pavilions, picnic tables and plaza seating along the Santa Fe Drive side. After the pandemic, The City of Thornton plans to open the park to community members for hosting events.
