Tom’s Diner Moves Closer to Historic Status

According to the Denver Business Journal, a committee of the Denver City Council has voted unanimously to move forward with a recommendation from the city’s Landmark Preservation Commission, to give Tom’s Diner on East Colfax Avenue historic status.

Alberta Development Partners is under contract to purchase the site, including a parking lot to the north of the building, for $4.8 million.

Owner Tom Messina wants to sell the property — known for its Googie-style architecture — to the developer when he retires, but the historic status would ultimately prevent the building from being demolished.
