A Year of Impact: 2024 Climate Action Report

Credit: CASR

Denver’s Office of Climate Action, Sustainability and Resiliency (CASR) has published its 2024 Annual Report. It highlights progress in reducing pollution and building resilience as our city grows hotter and drier. Thanks to the Climate Protection Fund, a dedicated sales tax providing over $40 million annually, more than 60% of 2024 investments supported communities most affected by climate change.

CASR programs and interventions in 2024 resulted in a projected reduction of 539,261 tons of carbon pollution through 2040. That’s equivalent to planting 8.9 million trees.

Check out some key findings, along with some case studies, that tell the story of CASR’s impact in 2024:

  • Denver’s e-bike voucher recipients swapped an estimated 1,000,000 car trips with e-bike rides in 2024.
  • 1,791 clean energy systems were installed at Denver homes, businesses and nonprofits.
  • CASR’s waste reduction programs—including plastic bag swaps, implementation of the bag fee and support programs for businesses have resulted in 290,000 pounds of plastic avoided.
  • In 2024, Denverites used 24 million fewer plastic bags than they did in 2022.
  • CASR’s Energize Denver Energy Navigation pilot program helped 31 small business owners cut energy use by an average of 20% and unlock an average of $42,000 worth of energy incentives.
  • 3,873 energy coaching sessions with Denver building owners fielded by the Energize Denver help desk.
  • Green workforce training programs funded by Denver’s Climate Protection Fund supported the training of 918 adult trainees and 544 youth trainees with clean energy skill
