Shames Makovsky Celebrates 55 Years of Commercial Real Estate Impact

Shames Makovsky, one of Denver’s longest-standing independent commercial real estate firms, is celebrating its 55th anniversary with some updates, including a refreshed brand identity and an official transition of its name from “NAI Shames Makovsky” to “Shames Makovsky”.

The new identity reflects a firm that has grown alongside Denver for more than five decades, from its roots as an industrial brokerage company into a full-service commercial real estate company active in brokerage, property management, investment, development and lending.

Founded in 1971 by Motty Shames and Evan Makovsky, Shames Makovsky has helped clients navigate periods of growth, downturn, reinvestment and reinvention across Denver and the Front Range. Over that time, the firm’s work has touched many of the issues that have shaped Denver’s commercial real estate market, including downtown revitalization, historic preservation, adaptive reuse, industrial growth, neighborhood investment and complex transactions involving public, private and nonprofit partners. Its legacy includes helping restore and reposition historic downtown properties, supporting businesses through changing market conditions and advising property owners, investors, developers and institutions through some of the region’s most consequential real estate cycles.

“Reaching 55 years is something we’re incredibly proud of,” said Evan Makovsky, co-founder of Shames Makovsky. “We’ve had the privilege of working with multiple generations of clients and witnessed the growth of Denver firsthand. Markets change, cycles come and go, but our approach has always been rooted in building relationships, providing sound advice and helping clients make informed decisions. That’s what has sustained us for more than five decades, and that is what will continue to sustain us for the next half century.”

The anniversary comes at a time of continued investment in the business, including a refreshed visual identity, updated website and enhanced marketing and communications platforms. The transition to Shames Makovsky reflects the name and reputation that have been recognized in the Denver market for more than half a century, while better reflecting the independent, locally owned firm the company is today.

“As we celebrate this milestone, we’re also focused on what comes next,” said Dorit Fischer, partner and broker at Shames Makovsky. “The commercial real estate industry continues to evolve, and it is important that we evolve with it. This rebrand is part of a broader effort to ensure we are well-positioned for the future while staying true to the relationships, values and level of service that have defined Shames Makovsky for more than five decades.”

As Denver continues to navigate changing market conditions, shifting workplace patterns, population growth and evolving investment priorities, Shames Makovsky’s next chapter will focus on the same principles that have guided the firm since 1971, providing informed counsel, building lasting relationships and helping clients make informed real estate decisions in a dynamic market.
