AGC of Colorado Hosts National COVID-19 Safety Stand Down April 9
The Associated General Contractors of Colorado (AGC of Colorado) is taking an active role in the National COVID-19 Safety Stand Down, scheduled for Thursday, April 9, 2020. This is part of a national safety day organized by the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC of America) to ensure everyone on construction sites is aware of and follow all of the safety guidelines to protect our communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“On the job site, our industry recognizes the important role we have in both the effort to combat the spread of COVID-19, and the essential services we provide to Coloradans. That role comes with the added responsibility to go above and beyond to ensure the safety of our construction workers and the surrounding communities,” commented Michael Gifford, CEO and President of AGC of Colorado.
The purpose of the National COVID-19 Safety Stand Down in Colorado is not only to protect construction workers by providing and enforcing all of the guidelines set forth by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), but also to inform the public at large, as well as government officials that the construction industry can operate safely during this crisis. AGC of Colorado has provided several resources for its member firms, including a “Sample Plan for COVID-19 Exposure Prevention, Preparedness, and Response” developed in English and Spanish by the Construction Industry Safety Coalition (with a Colorado addendum created by the AGC of Colorado’s Jobsite Protocol Task Force) for companies to adapt to each of their jobsites.
“Safety has been and will always be our top priority in construction. We are reminded of this not only on the National Safety Stand Down day, but everyday our workers enter a jobsite,” stated Gifford. “I am honored to work with such a conscientious and adaptable staff and board members who have responded so quickly to support our members during this crisis.”
AGC of Colorado formed a Best Practices Task Force back on March 18, to develop a Sample Plan Jobsite Protocol for COVID-19 on construction sites. This task force, comprised of AGC of Colorado board members, staff and member volunteers, is also detailing “how to” best practices to implement the toughest challenges on jobsites.
AGC of Colorado is also providing its members daily updates on the state of the construction industry during this pandemic via a COVID-19 tab on the homepage of their website, with more information on Job Protocol & Best Practices for Construction, Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) Building & Fire Permit Inspection Status, and Business Continuation/Cash Flow Resources.
