AIA Colorado Celebrates Colorado Architecture Month

DENVER, CO – Governor John W. Hickenlooper has proclaimed April as Architecture Month in Colorado. The American Institute of Architects Colorado Chapter (AIA Colorado) will lead this month-long celebration and share with the public how AIA Colorado members make lasting contributions to our communities through effective and inspiring design.

Throughout Colorado, there are over 3,200 licensed architects contributing to our state’s booming design and construction economy. As Colorado’s population continues to see tremendous growth, architects are partnering with industry professionals and local governments to impact where Coloradans live, work and play.

“AIA Colorado architects are leaders in the collaborative design of our state’s built environment,” said Cathy Rosset, Executive Vice President and CEO of AIA Colorado. “We recognize Colorado as a rich and diverse place to practice architecture, and are committed to preserving our state’s architectural heritage while integrating new design innovations to prepare for the future.”

This month, Coloradans are invited to join the month-long celebration of architecture. On April 14, the University of Colorado Boulder Environmental Design Program will celebrate the work of its architecture students at their 2017 Awards Gala. Then on April 19, the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies will host an open house featuring an architectural installation named “The Energy Confessional” – a traveling installation that encourages people to engage with design, materials and energy use.

Next, the popular Box City event makes its return to Colorado Springs on April 22 and Denver on April 29. Children from grade levels pre-K to 5 will have a unique opportunity to design and build a city from the ground up while learning about real world architectural concepts like urban design, historic preservation, city planning, creative thinking and problem solving.

From April 29 – April 30, the Denver Architectural Foundation will host the 13th Annual Doors Open Denver. This premier showcase event highlights nearly 70 of Denver’s unique spaces, including buildings designed by AIA Colorado members. Doors Open Denver also offers ticketed Insider Tours of the sites lead by architects, landscape architects, historians and urban enthusiasts.
