Sports Authority at Mile High Stadium will remove the Sports Authority signage by the end of this football season, to make way for a new placeholder name to be put in place by the start of next season.
Sports Authority filed for bankruptcy in March 2016 and sold off its naming rights to the stadium.
The $400 million stadium opened in 2001 and is owned by the Metropolitan Football Stadium District. About half of the naming rights money— $6 million a year — goes to the district and helps pay off the stadium. The other half goes to the Denver Broncos.
