Denver’s Humphries Poli Architects Combines with RATIO Architects

RATIO Architects, Inc., a top 50 multi-national design firm, announced this week that Denver-based and Western Mountain Region Firm of the Year Humphries Poli Architects P.C. (HPA) has joined the practice. The combined firm will operate as RATIO|HPA in Denver, and RATIO nationwide.

The addition of a Denver location to RATIO’s studios in Chicago and Champaign, Ill., Indianapolis, Ind., and Raleigh, N.C. increases the firm’s visibility in the region while seamlessly supporting HPA’s 25 year award-winning history of creating impactful design in Denver. The combined firm will create a unified and innovative design force on the national design landscape.

“We are excited to team with a strong practice that matches RATIO’s values, culture and client-focused mindset. We’re looking forward to building off our respective histories of success and combining to compete even more effectively in the Western Mountain Region and at the national level,” said Bill Browne, RATIO founding principal and president.

RATIO is an award-winning interdisciplinary design practice that has developed an emerging practice in Colorado and the Mountain region with numerous projects completed to date in the area. Founded in 1982, local RATIO-designed projects include Colorado State University’s LEED Platinum Chemistry Research Building and Scott Bioengineering Building, University of Colorado Boulder’s Smead Aerospace Engineering Center, Flatiron Renaissance Suites hotel and conference center, as well as multiple projects for the National Park Service.

“Since Joe Poli and I founded our acclaimed design firm in 1994, the practice of architecture has grown into an extraordinarily complex industry. By fusing our resources with a highly visionary firm like RATIO, we will better empower our talented team members to navigate today’s challenging architectural landscape,” said Dennis Humphries, principal at Humphries Poli Architects. “Most important, we’ll also be able to bring significantly enhanced value to our clients.”

In addition to HPA’s 100+ library projects and K-12 knowledge strengthening RATIO’s higher education practice, the combined firm’s strategy provides the opportunity to design solutions that transcend disciplines, areas of expertise, and markets through an interdisciplinary design process that ultimately creates singular experiences for our clients.

HPA is noted in the region for setting the benchmark for leadership in design, professional practice, and community services in both the private and public sectors with prominent projects including the Colorado State Capitol Restoration, McNichols Civic Center Building, NorthCreek Mixed Use center in Cherry Creek, CDOT Regional Offices, Montezuma County Combined Courts, numerous Urban and Transit-Oriented Multifamily centers and Anythink Libraries. Recognized as a critically acclaimed practice, HPA holds the distinction of being AIA’s firm of the year in both Denver and Colorado, in addition to the Western Mountain region. Dennis Humphries and Joe Poli will continue to serve in their positions as Principals of the practice and key partners in the combined firm.

“As we share values to our commitment in sustainability, design, and culture for the communities we live and work in, this transition is a natural next step in our combined firm’s legacy,” said Browne.
