The emphasis Encore Electric places on the safety and health of all of team members has resulted in another first place win at the National Construction Safety Excellence Awards. The Encore Electric team won the category of Specialty Contractors, 1.2 – 2 million man-hours.
The Associated General Contractors (AGC) holds the safety awards program every year to recognize the safest contractors in the United States in multiple divisions, including building, specialty, highway and transportation, and more.
According to the AGC, the purpose of the awards program is to recognize construction firms who are the best of the best with regards to safe working practices. Each application is reviewed for company management commitment, active employee participation, safety training, work site hazard identification and control and safety program innovation.
The national competition was held on March 7 and 8 during the National AGC convention. From hundreds who submitted written applications with their local chapters, a select group was invited to attend the finals. The finalist companies were then expected to present to a panel of nationally recognized judges.
The Encore Electric team members who gave the presentation included Jeffrey Engelstad, electrical engineer/technical support; Jack Cain, director of health and safety; and Meg VanderLaan, chief marketing officer. The presentation touched on the many aspects of the Encore safety program, and included an in-depth discussion of a new program being rolled out to our clients and customers – the continued education of building owners and general contractors on the dangers and ever-changing nature of arc flash protection.
“Presenting to a panel of such distinguished and passionate judges reinforced the message we brought to the presentation that “safety” is meant to be shared, best practices communicated, and ideas challenged,” said Engelstad. “Safety is obviously not meant to be a competitive advantage, it is meant to be combined tide raising all boats higher. It was an honor to have our message chosen for first place and to see that message as real for so many of the professionals that engaged in the process.”
“This award is a testament to our tradespeople who work safe on jobsites every day,” said Jack Cain, director of health and safety at Encore Electric. “Working safe is who we are as an organization, and we’re always thinking and talking about safety. We’re all members of the safety team here at Encore Electric. We’ve learned so much from taking part in the Construction Safety Excellence Awards over the years, and we’re grateful to share ideas and successes with other contractors from around the United States.”
The men and women of Encore Electric are dedicated to working safely and looking out for one another, both on and off jobsites. It is this hard work that allows the organization to be recognized nationally for the strength of the program – just like everything at Encore Electric, it is built by the hardworking team members in the field.
