JVA Inc. Project Engineer Receives NCSEA Award

Katharine (Katie) A. Courtright, PE with JVA, Inc. has been awarded the National Council of Structural Engineers Associations (NCSEA) Susan Ann “Susie” Jorgensen Presidential Leadership Award. This award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated exceptional leadership potential through their activities within NCSEA and/or their SEA. Katie was recognized with this award on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2022, at the NCSEA Structural Engineering Summit in New York City.

Katie is a project engineer on the Structural team in JVA’s Denver office and works on projects including new construction, additions, and renovations of healthcare and educational facilities. Katie is also involved in JVA’s Women+ Impact Network (WIN+) and YP employee resource groups. Katie has been with JVA since December 2019, following JVA’s acquisition of
Structural Consultants, Inc. (SCI) where she previously worked.

Katie’s involvement with the Structural Engineers Association of Colorado (SEAC) began in 2012 when she received a SEAC scholarship. Upon graduation in 2014, she joined the SEAC Young Member Group (YMG) Committee, becoming the YMG Committee Chair in 2017. Her service on the YMG Committee has included coordination of the annual SE/PE Study Group Kick-offs and AASHTO Review Sessions, as well as technical presentations, mentoring and outreach events. As part of the SEAC YMG, Katie has been instrumental in encouraging student involvement in SEAC’s annual Gingerbread Bridge Competition. Katie coordinated the student mentoring program for middle and high school students, recruited college teams from local universities, and helped to raise funds from local engineering firms to provide stipends to student teams. She is also serving on the newly formed SEAC SE3 Committee.
